Abstract

503,477. Model race tracks. CLARK, A. T. Oct. 1, 1937, No. 26582. [Class 27] [Also in Group XV] A :model track for electrically operated miniature cars or other vehicles comprises a circuit having two, three or more paths, means for electrically energizing the vehicles from the paths and means for guiding the vehicles thereon, said paths having interconnecting or transfer paths, which are so arranged that a car can transfer from one path to another and means operated by the vehicles on the paths for preventing a transference if the portions of the paths are so occupied that a collision would result. Sections of the track are arranged when occupied by cars to vary the voltage on other sections. The track is mounted on a wooden base made in two sections, joined by a plate 3, and lit by a lamp 5. The path is made up of four parallel copper strips Ca, Cb, Cc, Cd, the cars A, 13, C, D having current collectors S, Fig. 2, to connect with the appropriate strip, and pins 9 to engage in guide slots 7, but at converging CV and diverging DV parts of the track, the copper strips are joined as shown under the car D, Fig. 2. The points 11 at Dv and DV<1> are controlled by electromagnets 12 so that as long as a car is running on a " Point Control " section with its appropriate power button AP, BP, CP, or DP depressed by a competitor, the point is set for cars to take the outer path, otherwise the car takes the inner path. The " Convergence Control " section prevents two cars meeting at CV by cutting the current off from one of the approach paths through a relay Rc, Fig. 1. A car receives higher voltage current if on a " Boosted Section while another car is on a " Boost Control section through a relay Rb, the latter car suffering a reduction in current. The arrangement of the track sections is set out in Fig. 3, differentiated to show common sections CO, convergence control CC, boosted sections BS, boost control BC, and point control PC. The apparatus may be controlled by coinfreed mechanism or may be used for advertising or display purposes.
