Abstract

503,450. Piston extrusion apparatus. TAPLEY, A. March 26, 1938, No. 9383. [Class 102 (ii)] A portable device for delivering measured quantities of liquids comprises a cylinder 1 and a plunger 6 operated directly by hand and movable to one of a plurality of predetermined positions, means for directly locking said plunger against roverse movement during both the charging and discharging operations and until such operations are completed and visual means for indicating the amount of liquid measured and delivered. The plunger is operated by a handle 8 and a spindle 7 which is of square cross-section and is formed along one face with a rack 9, the teeth of which co-operate with a pawl 10 which allows the plunger to be moved in one direction but prevents return movement until the pawl drops into a recess 11 in the spindle. The rack 9 is interrupted by three recesses 11 spaced to provide for charges of half a pint, one pint and one quart. The extent to which the plunger may be withdrawn to charge the device is determined by means of three pins 15 coincident with the recesses 11 but arranged one on each of the remaining three sides of the spindle and adapted either to abut against the end plate 3 or to pass through slots therein. By rotating the spindle and pawl mechanism within the cylinder, any one of the pins may be brought into the position in which it abuts against the end plate.
