[Class 52 (iii)] In stands having foldable legs pivoted to. a slider movable along a normally vertical member of the stand, and a spreader slidably receiving the legs and defining their limit of splay, means are provided cooperating with the spreader for locking the legs in the splayed condition. A central vertical standard 7 to which a sign may be clipped is supported on a stand comprising three legs 8, 9, 10 pivoted to the underside of a slider 11 on the standard. The free ends of the legs are passed through holes 12 in the spreader 13 fixed to the lower end of the standard so that when the stand is picked up by the standard 7 the slider 11 falls down until it is stopped by the spreader 13. The holes 12 are inclined so that the legs are splayed as they fall. To lock the legs in the fullysplayed condition a rotatable cam member 14 mounted on the spreader 13 and provided with radial slots 16 is turned by a handle 15 to bring the slots out of register with the legs and cause cam parts 21 to engage the insides of the legs. To collapse the stand the cam member 14 is turned to bring the slots 16 into register with the legs and the stand is lifted by handles 17 on the slider 11 so that the.legs collapse during the lifting. The top of the standard 7 has sockets 19 for flags and a hook 20 adapted to receive a ring or clip engageable under one of the handles 17 for retaining the stand in the folded condition. A modified stand of trestle type supported by two folding legs 25, 26, Fig. 6, at each end of a rectangular frame including uprights 23 has the legs pivoted to a slider 24 on the upright and passing through inclined holes in a spreader 27 fixed to the bottom of the upright. For locking the legs in the splayed position shown a clip 29 pivoted to the slider 24 is engaged under the spreader 27. This clip may also engage lugs. at the upper end of each upright to maintain the stand collapsed.
