Abstract

502,807. Moulding cavitied articles. HUMPHRIS, F. Sept. 24, 1937, No. 25895. [Class 87 (ii)] Cavity-formers a are intermittently reciprocated in a moulding machine by a rotatable cam k, Fig. 16, which intermittently reciprocates a slide i connected by a lever h and link x to a lever f which coacts with a roller e<1> on a pivoted extractor-plate e, Fig. 6, to move a main bar b, carried by the reciprocating beam c of the machine, in one direction. The bar b imparts rotary motion in one direction to one or more crank discs n' which withdraw the cavity-formers a from the mould w by means of connecting rods n<2>, Fig. 5. The bar b is locked by a pawl p, Fig. 11, until a hookcam p<1> contacts with an arm p<3> mounted on the machine frame to release the pawl. On the downward stroke of the beam c a tumblerblock r, carried by a pivoted inserter-plate q, contacts with a stationary abutment s so as to move the bar b in the reverse direction and thus insert the cavity-formers a in the mould w. The bar b is preferably connected to the plate e, crank disc n<1> and plate q by means of teeth b<4>, b<3>, b<5> which engage corresponding teeth on the co-operating element and which may be carried by detachable plates v. Alternatively the connection may comprise wire ropes d as in Fig. 8, connected to the bar b and the co-operating element. In a modification the block r may be integral with the plate q and the abutment s may be yieldably mounted on the frame.
