Abstract

1,045,074. Upsetting machines. EUMUCO AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT FœR MASCHINENBAU. July 15, 1963 [July 23, 1962], No. 28019/63. Heading B3H. A horizontal upsetting machine has its slide 13 actuated by a connecting rod 12 which also drives through linkage 15, 16, 18, 23, and outer pull-rods 21, a pivoted arm 19 carrying a workpiece clamping jaw, the clamping dwell being provided by the linkage 12, 15. Slide 13 is reciprocated in elongated guides 14 and its connecting rod 12 is actuated by crank-shaft 10, 11 driven through gearing and a friction clutch 47, Fig. 3 (not shown), by a motor 38, Fig. 6 (not shown); a friction brake 48 (Fig. 3, not shown), is provided in the drive. Connecting rod 12 has a pivot-pin 25 which is connected by link 15 to lever 16 mounted on fulcrum 17. Lever 16 is connected by toggle system 32 and rod 18 to crank-arm 23 journalled at 36 in the arm 19 which pivots about 20 and carries the upper clamping jaw. Eccentric portions 37 of the journal 36 are mounted in the outer pullrods 21 which are connected at 22 to the machine base. A second spring-loaded toggle system 33 is adopted to yield upon overload. The clamping dwell is produced by the loci of pivot 25, Fig. 1 (not shown), which causes pivot 31 to remain stationary during this period.
