Abstract
500,917. Desk and table tops. ART METAL CONSTRUCTION CO. March 9, 1938, No. 7356. Convention date, April 19, 1937. [Class 52 (iii)] A desk or table top comprises a core 11 having rounded side edges 14 and abrupt end edges 16, linoleum &c. 20 covering the upper surface and the rounded side edges, and finishing strips 25 at the ends having rounded side and end surfaces conforming to the rounded sides of the core. The core is stiffened by cross members 12 and the rounded side edges 14 have inwardly-extending horizontal flanges 15 to which are fixed finishing strips 23. The end edges 16 are bent downwardly and outwardly to form horizontal flanges 17 'secured to the pedestals of the desk by bolts 32. The finishing strips 25 are of metal provided with down-bent upper edges 26 which bear upon the linoleum &c. 20 near its edge. Tongues 28 welded to the inner side of the strip 25 take through slots in the wall 16 and are bent over to secure the strip in place. Horizontal flanges 27 on the strips 25 take between the flange 17 and the top 33 of the supporting structure.
