Abstract

500,345. Directive wireless signalling. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE. Oct. 20, 1938, No. 30418. Convention date, Oct. 20, 1937. Addition to 482,101. [Class 40 (v)] The parent Specification describes a continuoualy-rotating frame aerial which feeds signal-voltage to one pair of deflecting plates in a cathode-ray tube, whilst the other pair of deflecting plates is fed by a voltage derived from a light-control system to correct for quadrantal error. Part of the correcting voltage is related to the instantaneous orientation of the aerial, and part to the sine curve of error, both being derived from graded translucent masks which rotate with the aerial and pass rays of light from two independent sources of light to two photo-electric cells connected in parallel to the deflecting plates of the indicator. According to the present invention only one source of light d is used, the rays being split by a prism f and passed through two sets of mirrors t, k and h, n respectively, before being recombined at n and applied to a photo-electric cell o which supplies one pair of deflecting plates in the indicator p. One beam of light is controlled by the graded mask b, according to the instantaneous setting of the frame aerial, and the other by a superposed film, or a second mask C, which applies a sine-curve correction, both masks being mounted on the aerial shaft a. Signal voltage is supplied to the indicator from the receiver (not shown).
