[Class 52 (ii)] A couch or settee comprises a single frame supporting seats for more than one person, and a plurality of separate back-rests and means for adjusting the back rests. The seats may be individually adjustable. The invention may be applied to a suspended couch-hannnock as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The seat supporting frame 25, 26 is suspended by links 12, 13 and springs 14 from a frame 10, and carries three seats 20, each hinged to a back-rest 23. The height of the backrest is greater than the front to back length of the seat. Hooks 30 on the back-rests engage rails 31 which are supported by frame members 32 which are carried by brackets 33 pivoted at 34 to wooden frame. members 35, which, with a front member 36, form sliding sub-frames supporting the seats. These sub-frames have a sliding movement limited by pins 37, 39 engaging slots in the members 35, but the seats 20 are held in fixed position on the sub-frame by-blocks. The members 32 supporting the back rests are held up by a rod 43 secured to fixed brackets 42. Means for locking the seats in adjusted posi - tion comprise levers 45, the forward lower ends of which are spring urged into notches in the front to rear members 28 of the main frame. A-legrest is provided for each seat, supported by a channelshaped bracket 61 at the front and by members 58 at the rear engaging guide rails 52 under the frame, and comprising two canvas covered frames 53, 55, pivoted together at the front so that they may be opened out when fully drawn out from beneath the seat. Arm-rests 62 may be. provided between each seat mounted in parallel pivoted links 63, 64 which are held in vertical position by a lever 67 having a notch engaging a pin. To convert the couchhammock into a bed, the arm-rests are collapsed and the positions of the seats and back-rests in the frame are interchanged. In a modified construction the seats are not adjustable, and all the back-rests are adjustable simultaneously.
