Abstract
498,689. Slicing-machines. BERKEL & PARNALL'S SLICING MACHINE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. (Maatschappij van Berkel's Patent N.V.) July 16, 1937, Nos. 19720 and 20852. [Class 28 (ii)] Slice-stacking mechanism, applied to a slicing-machine having a substance-supporting carriage reciprocated by crank mechanism. comprises a conveyer which is driven to-andfro rotationally by crank mechanism working in unison with the carriage crank mechanism. As shown, the conveyer 1 is driven by a crank 12 on a shaft 15 geared to the flywheel shaft 19, the crank being connected at 11 to a rack 9 slidable in guides 10 and meshed with a pinion 8 on the shaft 3 which is connected to the base of the conveyer by a pin 4 and locking-device 5. The rack 9 is offset from the centre of rotation of the crank to produce a quick-return motion of the conveyer in harmony with the similarly produced quickreturn of the carriage .20. The carriagedriving crank 22, on the shaft 21, and the crank 12 are relatively spaced apart by an angle of 90‹ when the crank 22 is at rightangles to the direction of the motion of the carriage. The discharge fly 26 has a shaft 27 journalled in a bearing 28 and is operated by a roller 30 engaging a cam 31 secured to a gear-wheel 32 driven by a wheel 14 on the shaft 15 through an idler 33. A known braking device, in which the brake resistance progressively increases during the slice-discharging action, is connected to the fly. The roller 30 is kept in contact with the cam 31 by a tension spring or by a torsion spring on the shaft 27. The straight rack 9 may be replaced by a toothed sector, and the cam 31 may be arranged otherwise than on the conveyer shaft 3.
