Abstract

498,357. Elastic diaphragm pressure gauges. KOLLSMAN, P. Jan. 10, 1938, No. 740. Convention date, Jan. 29, 1937. [Class 106 (ii)] Comprises a particular construction of the kind using magnets to transmit motion from an enclosed spindle to a coaxial spindle carrying the pointer. An outer casing A of hard rubber has a glass front 1 through which is seen a dial 2 over which moves a pointer 3 and a vent 4 to the atmosphere. It encloses a second rigid chamber C hermetically closed one wall of which is formed by a diaphragm 13 between which and the wall 9 is a third chamber D to which pressure fluid is admitted by a pipe 16 from an internally threaded nipple 14 threaded externally to receive a clamping nut 15. An outer plate 20 serves to mount the dial 2 and provides one bearing for the pointer spindle, the other bearing being carried by the reduced portion 25 of the non-magnetic wall of chamber C. Motion of the diaphragm 13 is transmitted by a stirrup 37 to an arm 36 projecting from a spindle 32 journalled in pillars 33, 34 carried by a plate 35 supported from the wall 5. From the spindle 32 a long arm 38 transmits the movement to a sector 40 in gear with a pinion 41 on a spindle journalled in reduced portion 25 and plate 35 and carrying a magnet 29. An exactly similar magnet with opposite poles is carried by the pointer spindle at the other side of portion 25. In a modification for a differential gauge, the second pressure is led into the chamber C.
