Abstract

623,927. Indicating-apparatus. FISCHER & PORTER CO. May 30, 1947, No. 14428. Convention date, Sept. 25, 1945. [Class 106 (iv)] [Also in Groups XXIX and XXXV] A magnetic coupling, particularly for use in giving a remote indication from a measuring instrument such as a fluid-flow meter, comprises a pair of coaxial bar magnets 24, 25 embedded in a guided portion 22 of the meter float 15, the ends of the magnets at the centre being of like polarity. The portion 22 slides within a non-magnetic housing 17 and this movement is followed by a bar magnet 29, the end adjacent the housing being of opposite polarity to that at the centre of the magnet system 24, 25. The magnet 29 is secured on a counterbalanced pivoted lever 26 which operates a gear train 30 so that movement of the magnet 29 operates a pointer 34 or a transmitter unit of a remote indicating or control system. In a modified form the magnet 29 is replaced by two diametrically aligned magnets mounted on a semicircular yoke secured to the lever 26. The polarity of the ends of these magnets adjacent the housing 17 is opposite to that of the centre portion of the magnet system 24, 25. U.S.A. Specification 1,052,528 is referred to.
