Abstract
498,111. Electric clocks. JUNGHANS AKT.-GES., GEB. Jan. 27, 1938, No. 2615. Convention date, Jan. 29, 1937. [Class 139] An arrangement for synchronizing the balance or pendulum of a clock consists in coupling a standard oscillation generator by means of an elastic member to the arbor carrying the escapement anchor or pallet arms. A synchronous electric motor rotates a shaft a having an eccentric disc b which, through a pin c, rocks a lever d, d<1> about its pivot e. A slot in the end of arm d<1> takes the outer end of a spring n, the inner end of which is fixed to a collet o on the arbor g carrying the pallet arms of the escapement. The lever h, balance i and hair spring k are designed in the usual manner. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the inner end of spring n is attached to an arbor carrying an anchor and crutch of a pendulum. The spring n may be a helical, spiral, or leaf spring. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the following. For the pendulum modification above, an extension of the pendulum suspension spring beyond the point of suspension may be used as the elastic transmission member. The elastic member may be replaced by a magnetic coupling in which a soft-iron core on the balance wheel or pendulum coacts with a permanent magnet or excited coil on the lever oscillated by the synchronous motor. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
