528,643. Clockwork mechanism. COLOMB, H., and TAVANNES WATCH CO. SOC. ANON. May 11, 1939, No. 14047. Convention date, May 12, 1938. [Class 139] [Also in Group XXXIV] The regulating lever 4, Fig. 3, for a clockwork balance is assembled with a socket 5 which is rotatably mounted in the balance bridge 1 with substantial friction, and coaxially mounted in the socket 5 are the pivot and cap jewels 14, 15 for the balance staff 3, at least one of these jewels being detachably fixed in position so that it may be removed without disturbing the regulating lever 4. A U-shaped spring 8, Figs. 3 and 4, is housed in a recess 9 of the bridge 1 and engages a peripheral groove 6 of the socket so that the latter is pressed downwards to create friction between lever 4 and bridge 1. A washer 10 between the parts 4 and 1 prevents wear of the bridge 1. The jewels are mounted as shown and are kept in position by an annulus 18 and a leaf spring 19 which is held at one end by a screw 21 and at the other, slotted, end 22 by a screw 24. Parts 4 and 5 are mounted rigidly together. Various modifications are described and shown of the shape and section of spring 8, and of the way in which the jewels are mounted in the socket 5. In Fig. 15 the cap jewel is pressed down by a floating ring and blade spring 58 to withstand axial shock. In Fig. 18, the cap jewel rests freely on the pivot-jewel ring 68 to give free lateral play. Devices are also described to vary the friction between lever 4 and bridge 1.
