[Class 103 (iv)] [Also in Group X] A roof covering for wagons comprises waterproof covering-elements 2 laid on a continuous rigid supporting surface 1 with their edges 3 resting upon the flanges of intermediate members 4 of inverted-T cross-section, and waterproof strips 5 which ride the webs of the members 4 and are bent longitudinally so as to overlap the edges of the elements 2 to which they are connected in a water-tight manner by cementing, welding, or other means. The supporting surface 1 may be of wood, concrete or cement. The elements 2 may be concrete slabs, or sheets of asphalted-felt, tarred-cardboard, bitumen, or metal; they may also be in the form of asphalt, bitumen, or cardboard sheets reinforced with a thin metal sheet or covered with a layer of metallic paint. The members 4 may be in the form of metal strips bent to the form shown in Fig. 1 and secured to the support 1 by fasteners which may also serve to secure the edges 3 of the covering- elements 2. The members 4 may, alternatively, be in the form of T-irons, the flanges of which are either of constant thickness, when a longitudinal wedge is provided underneath the covering-element 2 adjacent the edge of each flange, or tapered, as shown in Fig. 4. The waterproof strips 5 may be of asphalted-felt, reinforced bitumen, or metal, and secured by bitumen to the webs of the members 4. Bitumen may also be used to secure the edges of the strips 5 to the edges of the covering-elements 2, although, when both the strips 5 and the covering-elements 2 are of metal, the connection between them may be by welding.
