Abstract

497,518. Indiarubber threads; apparatus for coating yarns ; elastic fabrics. PICKLES, R., and PICKLES, J. Feb. 26, 1938, No. 6086. [Class 70] [Also in Groups VIII and IX] Yarns produced by doubling threads having intertwisted textile and elastic components are prepared for weaving or knitting by a continuous process in which they are impregnated with a solution of farina, starch, size or a similar fixing agent, subjected to a constant tension, dried to solidify the fixing agent and thereby maintain the elastic component in the extended condition, and finally re-wound. Fabrics made from this yarn are shrunk by washing out the fixing agent. Yarn from a spool 4 may be passed through a bath 5 of fixing agent, or over a furnishing roller, then over adjustable tensioning rails 7 covered with flannel, felt or like material, to a rotating drying cylinder 8 or other drying device, and finally to the take-up spool 9. The spool 9 may rest upon constant-speed rollers 12, 13, whereby the peripheral speed of the spool 9 and the tension of the yarn remains constant.
