Abstract
In a dyeing and sizing machine, yarn is unwound from bobbins 1, Fig. 1, passed through a reed 8 to present the yarns in a horizontal plane to a sizing or dyeing machine 9, 10 the yarn then passing through a drier 3 and over a finishing roller 15 to bobbins 5 on which the treated yarn is wound. The yarn is unwound from bobbins with disc brakes to maintain a suitable tension and passes round rubber coated cylinders 9 dipping in the sizing or dyeing fluid in a trough 10 which may be raised or lowered. The yarn passes out between smoothing cylinders 11 and over the grooves of a cylinder 12 into the drier 3. Revolving brushes 13, 17 pick up any broken threads. The dried yarn <PICT:0718460/IV(c)/1> passes over cylinders 14, 15 to felt coated cylinders 16 which feed yarn to the winding frame 5. The finished thread is cross-wound on bobbins, Figs. 2, 3 and 4 (not shown). Devices 6 are arranged to operate electrical circuits if a yarn is broken.
