Abstract

A reel device on which yarns, wires and the like may be forwarded in axial direction while passing round the reel in helical fashion comprises two oppositely arranged discs mounted on separate shafts inclined and eccentric to one another, each disc being provided at its periphery with arms rigidly secured thereto and intermeshing with the arms of the opposite disc and engaging in <PICT:0493965/IV/1> <PICT:0493965/IV/2> <PICT:0493965/IV/3> notches thereof. Artificial silk may be led from the spinning nozzle to one of the drums on which it is subjected to a wet treatment and it may then be passed round further drums and subjected to other treatments. As shown in Fig. 1, discs g1, g11 carrying arms l1, l11 are mounted on shafts a1, a11 whic are inclined and eccentric to each other. During rotation of the discs, the arms perform relative axial and radial movements and yarn or the like fed on to one end of the device is forwarded axially in helical turns. The arms may be arranged at an angle to the axes of the discs whereby the yarn or the like is either stretched or allowed to shrink during its travel on the reel. Stretching and shrinking may also be effected by making the arms of hunch-back contour as shown in Fig. 4. To facilitate drawing-off, the arms may be bevelled inwardly as shown at s in Fig. 5. For the deacidification, washing, and drying of freshly extruded artificial filaments, several reels may be arranged in staggered relation, the filaments being subjected to the various treatments while passing round successive reels. The device may be used for the delivery of very long films and for smoothing and conditioning textile bands and ribbons. It may be used for wire drawing machines and if a p construction as shown in Fig. 4, is used the wire can be reduced to a smaller diameter. The device may be used as in a winch for winding a hawser.
