Coating materials in long lengths. - In a machine for winding and dyeing yarn or the like a rotary roller 23 covered with absorbent material is mounted in a dye container 11, and the yarn is intermittently depressed so as to contact therewith by means of a cam 30. The container is provided with a slotted cover 17, Fig. 4, and the roller 23, which is mounted in a stirrup 21 and provided with two rings of felt separated by a horizontal wire 19 secured to the cover, projects therethrough. The path of the yarn is determined by a tension device 13 and a guide roller 15. The roller 23 is slowly rotated to present a fresh surface to the yarn by means of worm-gearing 25. The wire 19 reinforces the felts and prevents entanglement of the yarn in the slot of the cover. Loose ends are wrapped around a post 20 out of contact with the roller, to prevent its undue absorption of dye. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 211,437.
