Abstract

In the production of ammonium nitrate and mixtures containing the same by the interaction of ammonia and nitric acid in a circulating liquor by the process claimed in the parent Specification, the circulating liquor containing ammonium nitrate is maintained in circulation partially by the vapour generated by the heat of reaction and partially by vapour generated in the circulating liquor by heat from an external source. The apparatus described and shown is that of Fig. 2 of the parent Specification modified by the introduction of a heating element in the ascending tube A. This heating element consists of a nest of tubes heated with vapour.ALSO:In the production of fertilizing mixtures containing ammonium nitrate by the interaction of ammonia and nitric acid in a circulating liquor by the process claimed in the parent Specification, the circulating liquor containing ammonium nitrate is maintained in circulation partially by vapour generated by the heat of reaction and partially by vapour generated in the circulating liquor by heat from an external source.
