Abstract

A pasted accumulator plate is provided with a covering of microporous rubber by first soaking the plate in hot water and then immersing the heated plate in a heat sensitive aqueous rubber dispersion till a thin layer of rubber is deposited. The plate is then heated in steam and again immersed in the rubber dispersion to increase the thickness of the deposited rubber layer. The process is repeated till the required thickness is obtained whereupon the plate is immersed in hot water under steam pressure in an autoclave till the rubber is vulcanized. The autoclave is then cooled, the pressure being maintained till the required cooling has been obtained. The autoclave is then emptied and the plates removed and dried. The rubber dispersion into which the plates are immersed may consist of latex, sulphur, zinc oxide, calcium sulphate, gum arabic solution, water and an ultra accelerator.
