Abstract

<PICT:0496670/III/1> A device for applying liquid or semi-liquid substance to a surface, for instance dressing to machinery belts, comprises a container provided with a delivery aperture normally closed by a distributing roller which is adapted to be forced back to open the aperture upon the device being applied to the surface. The roller 9 may, as shown, be mounted in an aperture 3 formed in a depression in the cover 2 of a container, which cover is preferably of domed formation to assist in the distribution of the substance. The roller, the ends of which are preferably of bevelled form so as normally to seal the opening effectively, is mounted by means of trunnions 8 in bearings in a carriage 6 guided to slide within a casing 5 and maintained pressed outwardly by a spring 12. The trunnions project through guide slots 15 in the casing, the effective length of which slots may be adjustable, e.g. by screw stops, to vary the maximum amount the roller can be pressed back. Instead of being arranged in the cover, the roller may be disposed in a delivery aperture provided in the base of a container.
