Abstract

<PICT:0439139/III/1> <PICT:0439139/III/2> In a device for applying liquid adhesive to a stepped layer of sheets, the liquid-applying portion is so shaped that no injury is caused to the advancing edges of the sheets by collision therewith. The stepped layer of sheets B is moved past the narrow outlet slit 4 of the adhesive container 3, the slit forming an acute angle with the direction from which the sheets arrive, and non-impactive entry of the sheets is obtained by inclining and rounding off the portion 5, 7. The part 8 is formed with a narrow surface resting on the sheets, the angle a being made obtuse. The slit may be closed, when the device is not in use, by means of a plate 10 adjustable by a screw 17.
