Abstract

<PICT:0495499/III/1> <PICT:0495499/III/2> The interiors of empty vessels, e.g. tanks, casks, bottles are sterilized by subjection to radiations from ultra-violet or other ray-emitting tubes which are guided into and withdrawn from the vessels by means of hand or mechanically operated mechanism. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 U.V. ray tubes 2 are brought within and withdrawn from a tank 1 by means of rack and pinion mechanism 7-10. Fig. 2 shows similar mechanism applied for the movement of tubes 18 into and out of bottles mounted in a rack 13, 16.
