Abstract
494,982. Looms with stationary weft supplies. CLUTSOM, C. July 26, 1937, No. 20595. [Class 142 (ii)] In weaving wide and narrow elastic and other fabrics for corsets, belts, girdles, waist bands, ribbons, &c. weft from a stationary supply is laid in the shed by one or more slidable reciprocatory members 1 each formed &c. with a thread guiding part 2, which is turned, bent or otherwise deflected after a forward stroke of the member 1 so as to present its weft to a thread engaging element 37 for forming a selvedge, or selvedges. In weaving doublefaced fabrics, front and back wefts are respectively inserted by upper and lower members, each comprising a slide rod or bar 1 and a finger 2 pivoted thereto carrying an eye 4. The rods 1 are attached to a block 10 which is caused to slide on one or more guide bars 13 by adjustable lever mechanism described, actuated by a cam, crank or eccentric, freely moving auxiliary rods 5 connected to the fingers being caused by springs 11 to move with the rods 1 until their movement is stopped by an adjustable abutment 8. As the rods 1 continue to move, the fingers 2 move from their original position in line with the rods to deflected positions as shown, whereby their wefts are engaged by selvedge producing members. These may, as described in Specification 478,529, comprise a single latch needle 7 and a movable finger 34, a knitted selvedge of both of the threads b, c being formed, a loop casting-off plate 40 and a brush 39 for keeping open the latch of the needle 7 being used. A slotted bar or rod 32 fixed to a bracket 33 guides the fabric in the region of the fell. The threads may be tensioned by spring-pressed discs with or without a light tension spring.
