494,810. Electric - battery lamps. ELEKTROTECHNISCHE FABRIK SCHMIDT & CO., GES. Feb. 21, 1938, No. 5413. Convention date, Feb. 26, 1937. [Class 39 (ii)] A lamp casing of the flat form usually employing a flat battery incorporating a number of dry cells arranged side by side, is adapted to receive at least two separate cylindrical cells by attaching to the inside wall of one side of the casing 2 a separate unit which carries all the contacts and switch members with the exception of a resilient bridge 15 which connects the cells in series, the unit also including a sheet-metal trough 11 with side walls which co-operate with the wall of the casing to locate the cylindrical cells 6 in position. The contact-carrying unit comprises a sheet 10 of insulating material to which is attached an offset resilient contact 9 with one end bearing on a pole of one cell, whilst its other end 9<1> is arranged to contact with the sliding contact 13 of the switch when the latter is in the " on " position. A similar contact 7 bearing on the end of the adjacent cell carries an offset blade spring 8 which forms a contact for the centre pole of the lamp bulb, the end 7<1> of the contact 7 serving as a stop to limit the screwing movement of the bulb into its socket. The bulb-socket reflector 4 is secured in a removable end cap 1. A closing cap 3 at the other end of the casing is secured in position against the pressure of spring 15 by providing its flat sides with lateral channels which engage corresponding projections on the bottom edges of the casing 2.
