Abstract
494,413. Aero - engine cowlings. SCOTT, B. D. March 19, 1937, No. 8191. [Class 4] A cowling for an aero-engine which projects forward from an aircraft wing is so arranged that sections through cowling and wing in planes parallel to the plane of symmetry of the aircraft are aerofoil sections and the upper surface of the cowling is faired into the wing at the trailing edge. The leading edge of the cowling is swept back at one or both sides as shown in Fig. 1. Cooling air enters at apertures 15 and escapes over the leading edge at 19 and the ring undersurface at 20.
