Abstract

1,243,392. Reducing engine noise in aircraft fuselages. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. 25 July, 1969 [1 Aug., 1968], No. 36877/68. Headings B7G and B7W. An aircraft has one or more jet turbine engines located over the fuselage 11 so as to form a duct 18 therebetween. Air flowing through the duct acts as a buffer between engine 16 and fuselage 11 against noise emanating from the engine. As shown, each engine has a duct defined by a transverse partition 26 and a vertical partition 27. The engines 16 are enclosed in the structure 25. In another embodiment (Fig. 1, not shown) the tail fins 14 are mounted near the wing roots and the engines are located between them, a single duct being formed by the lower part of the engines, the fins and the fuselage. In a further embodiment (Fig. 8, not shown) ducts are recessed into the fuselage.
