Abstract
1441669 Aircraft J A SAKAL JNR 4 Jan 1974 [4 Jan 1973] 00419/74 Heading B7W An aerodynamic lift cell forming part of an aircraft comprises a flared air intake section 12, housing an engine 20 and propeller 26, leading to an aerofoil section 14 and terminating in a tail section 16 housing a further engine 36 and propeller 40 and adjustable control surfaces 44, 46. The aerofoils 30 in section 14 are arranged in banked rows and vertically staggered in adjoining rows, with airflow diverter or straightener panels 32 between the rows, and the tail section 16 flow area is arranged as a venturi with the propeller 40 positioned at the throat. The cell may be constructed as an aircraft having undercarriages 48 and a cabin (not shown) mounted on the top of the cell or a plurality of cells may be mounted on opposite sides of a central fuselage. A jet engine may be used instead of propellers to generate the flow through cell duct.
