Abstract
1397068 Jet propulsion engines on aircraft HAWKER SIDDELEY AVIATION Ltd 26 June 1972 29689/71 Heading B7G An aircraft has jet propulsion engines 17 mounted so that their air intakes 20 are over the trailing edge of wing 10 and their efflux passes over tailplane 15. The wing is of low aspect ratio or delta shape and is preferably a double delta, the leading edge having an inboard part 11 strongly swept back and an outboard part less strongly swept back. The bypass air from each engine is split and delivered rearwardly from ducts 18 on either side of main jet 19, so that the total jet efflux is flattened. The engine may also have a forward extension (24), Fig. 5 (not shown), leading to a flattened air intake (25). Lift fans 21 may be mounted in the wing, and lift may be augmented by cascade deflectors 22 on the tail plane 15 or by deflectors (23), Fig. 4 (not shown), integral with the engine pod.
