Abstract
493,362. Converting. HARMER, H. M. April 6, 1937, No. 9693. [Class 38 (ii)] An arrangement for supplying a D.C. load from a single phase A.C. circuit comprises a pair of inductive reactances connected in series across the A.C. circuit, one having a condenser connected in parallel therewith, the reactances being connected to the D.C. circuit through rectifying means. The reactances are designed so that at normal load the voltages thereacross are polyphase. The arrangement can be made to give an output voltage which remains constant or increases with increase of load. Also constancy of output voltage with variation of input voltage can be obtained. In the form shown the two reactances are formed by two transformers 1, 2 having their primaries connected in series across the A.C. supply, a condenser 5 being connected across one of the primaries, and having their secondaries connected through Graetz connected rectifier groups 4 to the D.C. load 3. An autotransformer connection on the primary side of the transformer 2 may be used to enable the condenser to be supplied at a higher voltage. A three phase Scott connection arrangement is also described. Various type of rectifying devices may be used. The Specification includes an elaborate mathematical analysis of the invention.
