Abstract
492,838. Gramophone records. YASOSHIMA, Y. June 25, 1937, No. 17719. [Class 40 (ii)] [Also in Groups XVI and XV] A sound record is made from aluminium or an alloy thereof by forming an oxide coating on the surface of the metal by anodic treatment, printing lines or other designs thereon using a resist consisting of a fatty varnish, dyeing the exposed parts, and treating the whole of the surface with alkali hydroxide, such as a solution of caustic potash, whereby the resist is saponified and the whole surface is impregnated with the soap so as to produce a lustre finish. The resist, which may be coloured, may consist of a mixture of linseed oil, China copal, and metal soap such as lead soap, and the dye may be a direct dye, such as diazophenyl black, diamine black or oxydiamine violet, or an acid dyestuff, such as acid black, fast green or sulphon orange ; a basic dyestuff or mordant colours may be used also.
