Abstract

492,713. Grilling &c. stoves. GAS LIGHT & COKE CO., PEARCE, P. H., and DUNNING, E. W. B. March 23, 1937, Nos. 8524 and 9728. [Class 126] A metal grilling-fret used with a multi-teat gas burner comprises a number of open-ended inverted channels 10 along which the flames from the burner may be directed, the channels being separated by outlet openings 11 for the burnt gases and having associated therewith heatradiating elements 29 lying in the path of the flames along the channels. The fret is formed from sheet metal, the channels and openings being formed by slitting the metal sheet and bending over a number of flanges 12. The heat-radiating elements 20 may comprise semicircular, helical coils of heat-resisting iron wire disposed along each channel, or may be formed by projections pressed out or otherwise formed on the walls of the channels. The upper walls of the inverted channels may have external projections 16, to support a cooking utensil. Two gas burners may be arranged at the ends of the channels, or a single burner with two rows of burner teats may be arranged centrally of the fret. A cast-metal shield-plate, which may act also as a hot-plate, may be disposed above the fret, and may be provided with a number of heatconducting or heat-scrubbing members extending between it and the upper walls of the channels. The shield-plate may be flat save for its marginal parts which extend downwardly, and has in the marginal parts apertures for the escape of hot gases. According to the second Provisional Specification, the sheet-metal fret is formed with lugs arranged in rows. Two adjacent rows are formed by cutting a number of transverse slits between two parallel lines, by cutting further longitudinal slits joining the ends of alternate pairs of slits, the longitudinal slits on one line being staggered relatively to those on the other, and by bending alternate rows down at an angle on both sides of a line centrally between the two parallel lines. Two such frets may be arranged, one on each side of a burner with two rows of orifices. The shield-plate, which is similar to that described in the Complete Specification, may have sides and a bottom to form a box with a front opening for the insertion of food to be grilled.
