Abstract

492,100. Overhead electric lamps. CAMPELL, G., and BENJAMIN ELECTRIC, Ltd. March 11, 1937, No. 7157. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In an overhead electric lamp comprising a main reflector 10, having an aperture 11 at the top, and a subsidiary reflector 25 below a downwardly suspended electric lamp bulb 24, the reflectors are so arranged that substantially all the light is directed into the main reflector for downward indirect lighting except that portion which passes directly from the source 24 or the reflector 25 upwardly through the aperture 11 and through the space between this aperture and the lower end of a neck member 12, this portion of the light providing without further reflection, direct lighting above the main reflector. The space between the aperture 11 and the neck 12 is filled by an upwardly tapering ring 21 of opal glass. The subsidiary reflector 25 may be constituted by a specular coating on the bulb 24, or, as shown, by a hemispherical cup which is either secured to the bulb by wire clips 26 or supported in close contact therewith by an arm 27, Fig. 3, which is pivoted to a bracket 29 on the main reflector 10 and is urged upwardly by a spring 32.
