Abstract

492,054. Loom stop-motions. CRABTREE & SON, Ltd., D., and FELTON, W. April 5, 1937, No. 9549. [Class 142 (i)] The selvedge thread inserted through the weft loops by a shuttle carried by an oscillating arm 2 on a shaft 2a is engaged by a wire member or feeler 5 on an oscillating shaft a, which causes loom stoppage if the selvedge thread is broken &c. Periodically a cam 2b on the shaft 2a moves endwise a shaft b against spring action, a projection b<3> on a member b<2> then engaging a projection a<3> on a member on the shaft a, which is thereby turned to lower the feeler. Afterwards a counterweighted lever 8 raises the feeler by means of lever mechanism and if the selvedge thread is absent so as not to interfere with this movement the lever end 8f moves into the path of a lay projection. The arm 8b carrying the pivot of the lever 8 is rocked, and a projection on a shaft 9 disengages the knock-off handle and stops the loom. By varying the counterbalancing weights 8d on the lever 8, the pressure exerted by the feeler on the selvedge thread may be varied.
