[Class 44] A pneumatic-sucker fastening which can be used for holding a motor-vehicle licence or other display card, or for supporting various articles such as ash-trays, match boxes, driving mirrors &c. on smooth surfaces, comprises a rubber ring 1, 5 to which a dished cover 9 of springy material is secured, the cover being deformable with snap-over action to assume an outwardly convex or concave form. The ring has a flat or concentrically ribbed face 2 to bear against the smooth surface 3. The cover 9 is centrally attached to a dished member 6 having a flange 7 vulcanized to the part 5 of the ring. The periphery of the cover is slotted to provide tongues 12 which are curved to form a channel or head 11 normally embracing and bearing against an upstanding part 8 of the ring. In applying the sucker the central part of the cover is depressed so that the flange 7 bears against the surface 3 and the cover takes an upwardly concave form with the channel 11 raised away from the part 8. The peripheral part 11 is then depressed, the part 6 serving as a central abutment causing the cover to spring to the upwardly convex form shown, this movement creating a partial vacuum within the sucker. In a modification the periphery of the cover extends beyond the part 8 so that when depressed the central part is raised, part 8 serving as a fulcrum. The cover may be provided with ball-joint or other connection appropriate to the article to be supported.
