Abstract
319,554. Lang, A. A. D. Dec. 27, 1928. Flower holders.-Pneumatic sucker fastenings for attachment to smooth surfaces for the support of articles and of the kind comprising a rigid extended base encircling a cupped indiarubber sucker of usual kind are characterized in that the rigid base is connected with an indiarubber knob or other extensible projection from the outside of the sucker, so that, after the sucker has been applied to the smooth surface, tension can be put on it, through the reaction of the base, to increase the vacuum. The rigid bases of two or more fastenings of this kind may be combined into a single base for a single holding device. In the form shown in Fig. 2, a rigid base B<1> is connected at B to a knob A<1> of a sucker A the base of which is slightly above the plane of the base. The base B<1> is bent upwards after passing through the knob A<1> and forms a support for an article or a suitable holder is attached thereto. In use the sucker is stretched down into contact with the surface C and tension is put thereon by the reaction of the rigid base B<1> and surface C. In another somewhat similar form, the knob A' to which the support or holder is attached, projects through a smaller hole in the top of a cupshaped rigid base encircling it. In other forms, one of which is adapted for use, in attaching a licence to a motor car windscreen or the like, a direct pull may be applied to a knob on the sucker and maintained by connecting the pull member, by a bayonet fastening or keyhole slot arrangement, to a member rigid with the base. Fig. 5 shows a form on these lines suitable for a rose-bowl or similar flower support. A wire mesh dome B forms the equivalent of the rigid base and a member D having a projection D<3> and extending through a slot in the dome B is connected, it may be through a spring D<4>, with a knob A<1> on the sucker A. Tension applied to the sucker A through the member D is maintained thereon through the reaction of the base B by turning the projection D<3> to engage with the edge of the slot in the dome.
