[Class 100 (ii)] [Also in Group XX] The range of contrast exhibited by a picture carried by an opaque or transparent support is increased by employing a support containing a substance such as rhodamine or zinc sulphide which, when exposed to visible monochromatic light, (e.g. green) admixed with ultra-violet light, emits fluorescent light of colour complementary to the incident monochromatic light. The picture or image is illuminated with light of the above-mentioned character, which may, for example, be a mercury vapour lamp or a source of white light provided with a colour filter; and is viewed through a filter of the complementary colour, which may be fitted in spectacles. The fluorescent material may be present in the support before printing the picture. Specification 460,549, [Group XX], is referred to.
