Abstract

491,009. Rotary drying containers. QUENNELL, H., and LLOYD, F. Jan. 23, 1937, No. 2094. [Class 34 (ii)] Solid chemical substances, soap flakes, cocoa beans, salt, grass and other vegetable substances, coal, coke, garbage, sewage and other sludges and slimes are fed by a screw conveyer 124 into one end of an externally heated horizontal rotating cylinder 11 of the kind described in Specification 454,268, [Group XII], and moved along the cylinder by intermittently rotated blades 31, shaped like ploughshares and mounted on a shaft 32, at temperature of e.g. 110‹ C., so that loss of material less volatile than water is avoided. Air from an inlet 29 may be passed in countercurrent over the material. Rate of entry and movement of the material is controlled automatically, and parts of the cylinder may be at different temperatures. Two cylinders in series may be used, the material moving faster through the second.
