Abstract
1401195 Drying fluent materials LUWA AG 28 June 1972 [1 July 1971] 30299/72 Heading B1B [Also in Division F4] Liquid, slurry or granular material is fed at 20 into a stationary heated (or cooled) cylinder 16, conveyed by a helical band 54 to longitudinal vanes of different form carried by a rotor portion 42, and is discharged at 22, one of the vanes being resiliently connected to the rotor 42 and extending closer to the cylinder 16 than another vane which is rigidly connected to the rotor 42. Entrained droplets are removed from the released vapour by impingement with a perforated helical band 62, the vapour being discharged at 24 to a condenser (not shown). The helical band 58 assists discharge of the material at 22. In Figs 4 & 5 the vanes comprise a wiper blade 80 which determines the thickness of the material layer on the cylinder wall, an agitator blade 82 moving close to the cylinder wall and supported by webs 84 to provide the apertures, a cranked comminution blade 88 (divided into four sections) serving to comminute the material, and a scraper blade 48 (in four sections) secured to a blade spring 50 and moving close to the cylinder wall. In another embodiment, one (or two) blade(s) 48 and one (or two) blades similar to the blades 82 but cranked are provided.
