Abstract

Electric insulating bodies comprise a shaped mass of a resin obtained by condensing a compound containing a five- or six-membered heterocyclic ring, in which the group -N= C-NH-X (X being H or NH2) is present at least twice, with an aliphatic aldehyde containing not more than four carbon atoms. Fillers such as wood dust, cellulose, mica, quartz dust, talcum, slate dust or asbestos may be present. Suitable aldehyde heterocyclic compounds include melamine, ammeline, benzoguanamine, diaminoquinazoline, diaminophthalazines, cyanuric trihydrazide and guanazole. Part of the heterocyclic compound may be replaced by other compounds capable of condensing with aldehydes such as phenols and dicyandiamide. Electrical apparatus containing the insulating bodies includes switches, lamp pedestals, lamp shades, flat-iron contacts, bearing shells, boxes for wireless apparatus, and commutators.
