Abstract

A composition for joining together the parts of electric insulators consists of acetyl cellulose and a plasticizer with or without one or more fillers but without a volatile solvent. It is caused to set by the application of heat without pressure. A typical composition consists of 87 parts of powdered porcelain, 11 parts of acetyl cellulose, and 2 parts of triphenyl phosphate. Alternative fillers are steatite, stoneware, kaolin, cement, kieselguhr. A little metal powder may also be introduced to limit the electric field. Specification 179,208, [Class 70, Indiarubber &c.], is referred to.
