Abstract

In the preparation of porous heat and sound insulating substances from polymerization products of a vinyl compound by the addition of a volatile solvent and subsequent heating, or by the addition of decomposable substances evolving gases on heating, as described in the parent Specification, the operation is effected under vacuum. In an example, a vacuum of 3-0,2 mm. of mercury was applied in the preparation of porous polystyrol, a product of specific gravity 0,1-0,02 being obtained.
