Abstract

In the preparation of porous heat and sound insulating polymerization products of vinyl compounds or mixtures of these, the products are mixed with substances which on heating are volatile or decomposable, such as benzene, methylene chloride, sodium nitrite, sodium bicarbonate, ammonium carbonate, the gases or vapours evolved rendering the material porous. The products may comprise polystyrol, polyvinyl chloride, mixtures of polymerization products of styrol and vinyl chloride, of vinyl chloride and ester of acrylic acid, vinyl acetate, &c., and such products subsequently halogenated. Specifications 406,267 and 406,286 are referred to.
