Abstract

A method for the preparation of sodium or potassium tripolyphosphate characterized in that it comprises mixing a previously formed tripolyphosphate having a bulk density of less than 0.9 with an orthophosphate solution adapted to form tripolyphosphate by dehydration, and then heating the mixture to a temperature between 200 and 600ºC for a time sufficient to convert the orthophosphate substantially to tripolyphosphate.
