490,448. Speed and drag control for spinning &c. machines; automatic control systems. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT. - GES. Nov. 10, 1936, No. 30724. Convention date, Oct. 2. [Class 120 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXV] The tension of the yarn in electrically driven spinning, twisting and like machines, in which the yarn is wound in cop form, is controlled by a template regulator effecting a variation in accordance with the effective diameter of the cop and constituting a coarse regulation and by a regulator controlled by the tension of the yarn andconstituting a fine regulation. The invention is particularly applicable to ring spinning-machines, but may be applied to machines wherein the twisting and winding is effected by the relative rotation of a flyer and the cop, the control being applied to the driving-motor or to the drag means. The template regulator may effect a variation in the basic speed. The fine regulation is effected by electric control means operating continuously or between limits. In a direct current drive for spinning-machines, the main driving-motor 1, Fig. 1, is provided with two field-windings 2, 3, of which 2 is controlled by the template regulator 11 and 3 by the tension regulator. The field-winding 3 is supplied from the winding 16 of a transformer 15 and a discharge valve 17, of which the potential of the grid is controlled through the circuits shown by a feeler 28, which is engaged by the yarn 19 and operates a valve screening the air current influencing the bridge 22 of a bolometer. In a three-phase drive, the brush-holders are operated by differential gear of which one part is controlled by the template regulator and the other by the tension regulator. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, one part of the differential gear 45 which operates the brushholders is controlled by a cord 6 of the template regulator, and the other by a motor 47 supplied through relays 54, 55 and limit contacts 57, 58 under control of the feeler 27.
