Abstract
490,217. Scaffold clamps. BURTON, J. Feb. 9, 1937, No. 3899. [Class 20 (ii)] Scaffolding-clamps of the pivoted-jaw type such as described in Specifications 413,230, 436,244, and 477,465 are provided with locking- members pivoted or slidably fitted on the jaws and movable into a position for transmitting the thrust of the bolt or equivalent clamping- member, or to clear the latter for releasing the clamp. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, each of a pair of jaws 12 pivoted on a block 10 is formed with projections 16, 17 which are spaced to clear the head of a bolt 13 threaded into a lug on the block 10. Pivoted on the part 16 is a locking-member 14 which in the operative position bridges the parts 16, 17 to take the thrust of the bolt. In a modification, the parts 16, 17 are fitted with headed pins engaging slots in the arms of the member 14. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the locking-member 26 consists of a pivoted sector 26 with a key-hole slot 29, 30 for cooperating with the bolt 13. Fig. 7 shows a further modification in which the bolt 36, arranged for direct thrust on a recessed lug on the jaw 12, is threaded through a yoke 35 pivoted on a lug 32 on the block 10.
