Abstract

A plant fertilizer consists of a mixture of silica ground so that at least 40-60 per cent thereof passes a sieve of 10,000 meshes per sq. cm., or of powdered alkali or alkaline earth, including magnesium, silicates with one or more salts of iron and/or manganese. Potassium, sodium and calcium silicates are referred to. Silica from natural tertiary formations near Cologne on the Rhine, at Lippe, and at other places, is suitable. Examples relate to mixtures of the ground silica with 4,5 per cent ferrous sulphate, with 6,75 per cent MnSO4.4H2O, and with 2,5 per cent ferrous sulphate and 3,75 per cent MnSO4.4H2O.
