Abstract

489,839. Printing-machines. LOWE, J. Jan. 14, 1938, No. 1298. Convention date, Jan. 15, 1937. [Class 100 (ii)] A rotary printing- machine, which is especially applicable for printing bank - notes, bonds, &c. with multicolour prints in which the colours overlap to produce rainbow - like effects difficult to forge, and which may be used for printing fabrics, is constructed with an offset cylinder 1 which receives designs from three pattern rollers 6 inked by rollers 3, 4, 5, from separate colour ducts 14, the rollers 3 being fitted with scrapers 13 to prevent soiled ink from returning to the ducts. From the cylinder 1 the collected design which is formed of different colours which do not overlap is transferred by rollers 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 to the material 2 as it passes over an impression cylinder 12. One or more of the intermediate rollers 7, 8 are arranged to be reciprocated axially so as to mix the colours of the design to form rainbow-like effects. The rollers are all geared together so as to preserve the longitudinal register of the design. The roller 11 may be a plain roller or may be a patterned, e.g. a guilloched roller.
