Abstract

[Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii)] In an engine having parallel cylinder bores a<1>, a2 containing tangential inlet ports o<1>, and exhaust ports o<2> the communicating passage i which forms the combustion chamber has a smooth oblong section as shown in Fig. 2. Liquid fuel is admitted in the direction W, tangential to the whirling air. The inlet and exhaust ports extend round the respective bores, the flow of scavenging air being enhanced by baffles on the remote ports, and the reduced heights r of the outer exhaust ports.
