Abstract

489,497. Froth - flotation apparatus. GALIGHER CO. Jan. 25, 1937, No. 2136. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1936. [Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Group VI] To form small bubbles in an aerating- machine for use in froth-flotation operations, an impeller is used which comprises a hollow member to which gas under pressure is introduced and which has means whereby jets of mixed air and liquid are discharged into the main body of liquid. Substantially vertical blades are spaced, preferably radially, around the circumference of the impeller to break up the jets and to guide the bubbles upwardly and outwardly. These blades are spaced from the bottom of the cell to provide a free space for circulation over the whole bottom surface. In the form shown the rotary impeller 12, which is shown in a raised position in Fig. 2, its operating position being indicated by dotted lines, consists of a bell-shaped chamber 24 terminating at the bottom in a flange 32 from which depend lugs or teeth 14. Compressed air is introduced to the chamber 24 by a pipe 19 and the jets of air and liquid are formed by the passageways 15 between the teeth 14. The jets are broken up by the " peeler blades 17, 18 which are radially spaced around the impeller and do not extend to the bottom of the cell. The blades 17 are preferably welded to a ring 20 which rests in grooves 48 in the blades 18 which are supported on corner members 46. The bottom edges of the blades 17, 18 may slope downwardly or upwardly from the end adjacent the impeller. A plurality of the cells may be arranged in series to form a flotation machine, the tailings being passed through apertures in the cell walls from one cell to the next. U.S.A. Specifications 2,055,065 and 2,085,947 are referred to.
